Another fine Latitudes Sessions release from Southern Records. This time it’s the turn of psych-rock three-piece The Entrance Band. This series of releases really excels at introducing people to new, underexposed and exciting music and The Entrance Band session is thankfully no exception. These three tracks were recorded after their appearance at the Animal Collective ATP last year where, like all the guests, they were hand-picked by the band to play.
THE ENTRANCE BAND is heading out on the road this week! We will have copies of our new “Latitudes Sessions” on Vinyl, which is very limited and rare, as well as new T-Shirts and a whole set of new songs from our forthcoming LP, which we are hoping to release around Halloween… Here’s a list of upcoming dates:: Love, T.E.B.—-

Bonnie Prince Billy – Hummingbird EP

The centerpiece of Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s record store day release is a cover of Leon Russell’s “Hummingbird.” Featuring a notable cast of LA musicians, including “Farmer” Dave Scher and the Entrance Band rhythm section of bassist Paz Lenchantin and drummer Derek James, the track was recorded on Russell’s famed Shelter Records soundboard. The release also features a take on the traditional “Tribulations,” along with Merle Haggard’s “Because of Your Eyes.”

In 2002, I drove up solo from Southern California to San Francisco to watch one of Nina Simone’s last performances. I will never forget it, sitting there by myself crying on a tit of a beautiful Afrikan Amerikan big mama seated next to me. “Oh, honeychild…it’s gonna be okay” she assured me as she handed me her handkerchief.

Nina’s fingers on the piano were like raindrops sprinkled on the morning sun. She put an undeniable “spell on me.”
